The nursery was created for the baby, not the baby for the nursery.

In 1970 I was born. In 1970 my father brought to fruition an idea he had been building on for many years, which he called “Earth Day.”

Now known as the founder of the global Earth day, he had some disagreements with Gaylord Nelson, with whom he shared his vision and the name Earth Day. Nelson is known with the April Earth Day. My dad didn’t know that Gaylord Nelson was going to use the name for his environmental teachings, which sometimes took a violent turn.

My father saw the vision as a global vision with a trifold of Peace Justice and the Care of Earth. His passion came from his love for Jesus Christ and the teachings of The Sermon on the Mount. He was raised by one of the founders of the Assemblies of God; he was complete pacifist. His story is interesting. (We still have some boxes of his biography. If anybody is interested contact me (letterstoafriend1@gmail.com) and I can send you one. They are $17 plus shipping.)

He had some disagreement with Billy Graham who thought dad should be an evangelist. But my father really strongly felt after years of prayer that God was calling him to help people awaken to the need to care for this planet, this amazing, exquisite, diverse beautiful home given us by our loving Creator, Redeemer, Sustainer who desires to be Father to those who are willing to accept his authority, love, salvation, grace and truth.

My passion first and foremost is for Jesus and our God, the creator of this beautiful universe, our Redeemer from whom All Our Hope flows In Spite of the many messes down here that we have made partially by things out of our control, due to the fall of Adam and Eve.

Just like an alcoholic mother can pass on alcoholism to a baby, so sin and the sinful nature is passed down from generation to generation and it’s only through the Saving Grace of Christ and standing in the righteousness that He gives us that we are brought home. The relationship with God is the most important thing in the universe. On it and on God all things hinge. Whether we acknowledge it whether we accept it or believe it matters no more than whether we believe the law of gravity exists. But try to fly by walking off a building without coming into obedience to the law of gravity and it will work whether you believe in it or not.

God’s love sustains this world. When we look at human nature and the evil around us and within, is it not simple proof that we have not self-destructed Millennium ago that something stronger than us is supporting and sustaining? Someone that must passionately care for us and love us deeply.

Sometimes the Brokenness is fixed here, sometimes it is after we pass through the veil.

For those who receive his love and grace and truth, believing simply that what he says is true over every other lie, there is Power beyond comprehension. But it is not an arrogant prideful power, that seeks to exalt itself. But it is a passionate loving often gentle power that seeks to build others up and bring them into relationship that is healthy healing beautiful and good.

Truth that is sustained by our creator that continues even when we fall so many times into lies. You can’t have lies without having truth. You can have truth without lies, but a lie is a subversion a twisting of what is true and real and at death every human will stand before truth incarnate and every lie will be gone.

The choices we make whether to believe or not believe truth and whether to love or not to love the truth follow us into eternity.

That eternal love that brought the universe into existence to provide a home for those beloved, is continually reaching out to the people in this world. Just like the loving Creator made this world and we can take care of it, so one day there will be a renewal of all things.

The wolf will lay down with the lamb. The child can put its hand in a Viper’s nest and there will be no harm on all of God’s Holy Hill. And relationship is the deepest meaning of all the creation and the beauty we see.

One does not have a beautiful Nursery appear and then decide to have a baby so that the nursery can be filled. No. The baby is treasured in the womb by the Living God and the nursery is lovingly created and decorated in expectation of the child that will come and dwell in it.

Likewise a castle with no prince and princess is emptiness. No matter how lovely, how exquisite, the prince and princess were not built for the castle, but the castle for the prince and princess. And so relationship with God and with each other is the reason we have the beauty that we see around us, and in this broken world the battle for relationships and for love affects the physical world as well.

And so caring for this Earth, we must do so in wisdom, keeping the perspective of caring for the Earth in order to care for the people that God lovingly placed in it and still deeply loves. And the appropriate care of the Earth is a worship of God who created it.  For the Bible says that every breath that every creature and human breathes is intentionally given by God. And if he were to withdraw his breath all mankind would perish. For without the love that he pours, we would be like bodies with no breath.

I was blessed by my father. He lived what he preached in our home. I did not always agree with him on all things and that is to be expected. The greatest Heritage that he passed down to me was his faith, the second was his gift at peacemaking. The Third, because I am not gifted in the way that he was with that kind of intelligence and mind to be able to process so many many thoughts and see so many things clearly and remember, but the heritage of teaching people to take care of this beautiful planet this home with which we’ve been blessed.

It is exciting to understand and to take part in these things, but as in everything we do let us always remember that the most important thing is relationship. First with God and then with each other. Jesus Christ said that the first commandment and most important was this, love the Lord your God with all your heart all your mind and with all your strength. The second was like it to love your neighbor as yourself. When humans come into connection with the Living God and little by little grow into the reflection of who we were once created to be, as we learn to actually do these things in everything we do and say, then we will see God. But to love in such a way we absolutely have to be connected with the source. No lamp can give out light if it is not connected to the source of electricity.

So as we care for the Earth, and I know many people have many different beliefs and many different ways of thinking, be at peace, you are treasured and loved, but as we care for the Earth this home which we have blessed with, always remember that the nursery was created for the baby, not the baby for the nursery. The most important thing is relationship and it is from that that all else we do succeeds. Relationship with God, following his laws of love, and through that relationship with one another. And from that the relationship with creation flows.

Much love and God’s peace.
